Performer Patricia Routledge, renowned for playing Hyacinth Bucket in the beloved television comedy Keeping Up Appearances, has left us at the age of 96, as confirmed by.

She also appeared in Alan Bennett's celebrated solo performances and took on the role of BBC One's crime-solving retiree Hetty Wainthropp.

"We are deeply saddened to confirm the loss of Patricia Routledge, who died peacefully in her sleep recently in the presence of family."

A Life in the Spotlight

Dame Patricia was best known as the character Hyacinth Bucket - with the affected pronunciation "bouquet" - a humorous character who represented the height of affectation and class consciousness.

"Hyacinth is a terrible snob and I had great fun with the role enormously," the actress remarked.

This classic sitcom was broadcast from 1990 to 95, and soon after she was voted the most beloved female performer at the television awards.
