Google's parent company Alphabet is set to invest fifteen billion dollars for constructing an AI computing facility in southern India's Andhra Pradesh state.
The infrastructure, to be established in the harbor town of the city of Visakhapatnam, will become a part of Google's global network of AI centers located in twelve different countries.
"This represents the biggest AI facility that we are committing funds to anywhere in the world, outside of the United States of America," Google Cloud's chief executive stated at an gathering in Delhi, the national capital recently, mentioning that the financial commitment is to be distributed throughout the next half-decade.
This declaration occurs when US President Donald Trump has been urging American companies to focus on investments within the country.
The nation has risen as a prime location for artificial intelligence facilities. The nation's inexpensive data services and quickly expanding online population have made it a focal point for expansion of cloud and artificial intelligence for technology leaders.
"This center will deliver our pioneering tech solutions to companies and individuals in the nation, speeding up artificial intelligence advancement and promoting progress across the country," stated Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.
A formal agreement to complete the initiative will be signed on Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh government said.
"It is a significant advancement for our state's technological advancement, progress, and international reputation," remarked the state's technology minister Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.
The venture will combine AI and cloud systems with renewable energy systems and an enhanced optical fiber network.
This initiative is part of the local administration's plan to develop 6GW of data center capability by 2029.
Data centers are physical facilities that house the networking and computing devices that organizations use to collect, process, store, and distribute data.
They contain servers, data storage systems and network equipment like firewalls and routers, along with the necessary power and cooling systems to run them.
Across Andhra Pradesh, the local administration has been granting reduced-cost property and power to entice international investors.
The country's computing facility market has developed swiftly over the past five years, surpassing the one gigawatt capacity threshold in 2024 and almost increasing threefold its 2019 level.
