Portrait of László Krasznahorkai

Krasznahorkai was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literary Arts.

This Magyar writer was honored "for his compelling and prophetic collection that, amidst cataclysmic terror, reaffirms the might of creative expression."

Krasznahorkai has written 5 novels and garnered countless additional writing honors, such as the 2015 Man Booker International Prize, and the 2013's best rendered novel award in Narrative for his debut novel Satantango, a postmodern piece concerning the conclusion of the planet.

He is the second Hungarian writer to receive the prize following the deceased Imre Kertesz, who won in 2002.

Originating in 1954, the author gained fame in 1985 when he released "Satantango", which he transformed for the movies in 1994.

The monochrome movie, by Magyar director Tarr Bela, is renowned for its lengthy duration.

Krasznahorkai's additional novels comprise:

  • The Melancholy of Resistance (1989)
  • War and War (the late 90s)
  • Seiobo Below (the 2000s)

The Nobel Prize in Literature portrayed the writer as "a great sweeping writer in the European heritage that reaches through Franz Kafka to Bernhard Thomas, and is marked by absurdism and grotesque overindulgence."

Krasznahorkai's recent novel "Herscht 07769" has been described as a significant contemporary German novel, owing to its accuracy in portraying the nation's social upheaval prior to the global health crisis.

This is a depiction of a contemporary village in Thüringen, Deutschland, troubled by societal chaos, killing and incendiarism.

"Gentle colossus Herscht Florian is an ward, raised by a radical who has mentored him as a graffiti remover.

"The Boss, a Johann Sebastian Bach fanatic, is enraged that someone is spraying wolf symbols across the memorials to the famed artist in their east German city."

One critique noted it as "therefore bleak from beginning to finish."

Krasznahorkai's newest mock-heroic novel, Zsömle Odavan, returns to Magyarország.

The main character is 91-year-old Józsi Kada, who has a secret claim to the throne but has gone to great lengths to fade away from the planet.
