Nintendo alongside Illumination shared the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. This occurred during a Nintendo-focused broadcast that focused exclusively on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
The follow-up to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will send Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. In his journey, he meets a different royal figure and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
Similar to the Wii console classics that serve as its inspiration, Mario will depart from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some familiar faces, including the Luma, a breakout star from the original cinematic release.
However, it seems Mario and his sibling Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who reportedly utilizes powers related to metal. Interestingly, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also includes nods to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The movie will welcome back of the initial voice actors, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
The upcoming Mario film is planned to debut close to the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a important time for Mario and his friends.
The company has three new games publicly declared for 2026, including Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
