What I Learned Following a Full Body Scan

Several periods earlier, I was invited to experience a detailed health assessment in east London. The health screening facility utilizes ECG tests, blood work, and a talking skin-scanner to assess patients. The company claims it can identify various underlying cardiovascular and energy conversion concerns, evaluate your likelihood of experiencing pre-diabetes and locate questionable pigmented spots.

From the outside, the facility looks like a vast transparent tomb. Inside, it's closer to a curved-wall relaxation facility with pleasant dressing rooms, personal consultation areas and potted plants. Unfortunately, there's absence of aquatic amenities. The complete experience requires under an hour, and features various components a mostly nude screening, multiple blood collections, a measurement of hand strength and, concluding, through rapid data analysis, a physician review. Typical visitors leave with a mostly positive health report but attention to future issues. In its first year of business, the clinic states that a small percentage of its patients were given possibly critical intel, which is not nothing. The premise is that this information can then be shared with healthcare providers, direct individuals to necessary care and, ultimately, prolong lifespan.

The Screening Process

My personal encounter was quite enjoyable. It doesn't hurt. I liked strolling through their light-hued spaces wearing their soft footwear. Additionally, I valued the leisurely atmosphere, though that's perhaps more of a reflection on the condition of government medical systems after years of inadequate funding. Overall, 10 out 10 for the service.

Worth Considering

The crucial issue is whether it's worth it, which is harder to parse. This is because there is no comparison basis, and because a favorable evaluation from me would be contingent upon whether it detected issues – in which case I'd likely be less interested in giving it five stars. It's also worth pointing out that it doesn't perform radiographs, magnetic resonance imaging or body imaging, so can solely identify hematological issues and dermal malignancies. People in my genetic line have been riddled with tumors, and while I was relieved that my pigmented spots look untoward, all I can do now is live my life expecting an problematic development.

Healthcare System Implications

The trouble with a dual-level healthcare that commences with a commercial screening is that the responsibility then lies with you, and the national health service, which is possibly responsible for the challenging task of intervention. Physician specialists have noted that these scans are more technologically advanced, and feature extra examinations, compared with routine screenings which screen people aged between 40 and 74.

Proactive aesthetics is rooted in the constant fear that eventually we will look as old as we truly are.

However, experts have said that "managing the rapid developments in paid healthcare evaluations will be difficult for national systems and it is essential that these evaluations contribute positively to patient wellbeing and prevent causing supplementary tasks – or anxiety for customers – without definite advantages". While I suspect some of the center's patients will have additional paid health plans available through their resources.

Broader Context

Early diagnosis is essential to treat significant conditions such as cancer, so the appeal of screening is obvious. But these scans tap into something more profound, an version of something you see with certain circles, that self-important segment who honestly believe they can achieve immortality.

The organization did not create our obsession about life extension, just as it's not unexpected that affluent persons live longer. Certain individuals even appear more youthful, too. The beauty industry had been fighting the passage of time for centuries before contemporary solutions. Prevention is just a new way of expressing it, and commercial preventive healthcare is a expected development of preventive beauty products.

In addition to beauty buzzwords such as "extended youth" and "preventive aesthetics", the objective of prevention is not stopping or reversing time, concepts with which regulatory bodies have expressed concern. It's about postponing it. It's indicative of the lengths we'll go to conform to impossible standards – another stick that individuals used to criticize ourselves about, as if the blame is ours. The business of proactive aesthetics presents as almost questioning of youth preservation – specifically cosmetic surgeries and minor adjustments, which seem less sophisticated compared with a night cream. However, both are based in the pervasive anxiety that one day we will look as old as we actually are.

Individual Insights

I've experimented with many such products. I enjoy the experience. And I dare say certain products enhance my complexion. But they aren't better than a proper rest, inherited traits or maintaining lower stress. Even still, these constitute solutions to something out of your hands. Regardless of how strongly you embrace the reading that maturing is "a mental construct rather than of 'real life'", culture – and the beauty industry – will continue to suggest that you are aged as soon as you are no longer youthful.

In principle, such screenings and similar offerings are not focused on escaping fate – that would constitute ridiculous. Additionally, the positives of early intervention on your health is evidently a completely separate issue than proactive measures on your aging signs. But ultimately – examinations, products, regardless – it is fundamentally a conflict with the natural order, just tackled in somewhat varied methods. Following examination of and utilized every inch of our earth, we are now attempting to master our physical beings, to defeat death. {
